Child Employment
The levels of supervision for students undertaking work experience allows students to be placed in a wide variety of different occupational areas, many of which are actually prohibited for children in terms of actual employment, such as work in a commercial kitchen, market stall or theatre.
Understandably, this has led to considerable confusion, particularly as, in addition to national laws and regulations, Cambridgeshire County Council has specific local bye-laws.
The leaflet below is a helpful guide to the main facts about child employment and applying for a work permit, which is a legal requirement for all children of compulsory school age.
